Hello Everyone.
Here’s this weeks addition of what did Pat get into.
This was a week of errands with a mix of work.
First up I went down and revisited the Model T I did some repair work on. Previously the customers coil box needed some repair. I fixed the box and of course ran into another issue. This time the magneto gave trouble. I repaired and reinstalled the coil box. Started the engine and it ran great on battery but not on magneto. So I went back down with a new magneto post. Well that didn’t do the trick. The engine still only ran on battery. This one’s Gona take a bit more investigating. More to come.
The next stop I made was a run up to local upholstery supplier. If you remember from previous posts I picked up a Model A job in Clinton. The job is a complete rewire, change out exhaust/intake manifolds, and get the car running. That’s phase one. Phase two is a complete interior makeover. Which is why I ran out and picked up all the material supplies I need.
So I stated the job this week and rewired the car, swapped manifolds, and got it running it now runs. Sounds ok at idle, but still needs some TLC. When I left it was running ok enough for them to continue tinkering and learning how to drive the car. I will be back in the next few weeks with a rebuilt carburetor, and some distributor work and then she should be running much smoother. Upholstery will be started soon. More to come!
Speaking of carburetors, I also took first steps on rebuilding a pile of Zeith Model A carburetors. More to come on this job too soon.
Saturday was a really fun trip with the North West Connecticut Model A club. Thanks Debbie and Guy for putting that together. I was passenger princess while jenn drove me.(who let her drive? kidding she did fine) It was just over 100 miles round trip. We started the day meeting the club at Terryville fair grounds a quick stop to pick up another member in Middletown and tinkle before the bumpy road. Then we trekked up the mountain to Gillette’s Castle. There was a quick movie before we toured the castle. We didn’t really know much about the history before going it was very interesting. Jenn really enjoyed all the doors and architecture. We set up a picnic in the parking lot with our cars before journeying back. And in good fashion we made a pit stop for ice cream on the way back (I’m pretty sure it’s a mandatory stop in an A)
Today was a short day but managed to fix the manifold that I broke while testing carburetors hung the door on the roadster. It needs a more adjusting to sit perfect still. We also took step daughter Jess for her first model T ride. She seemed to really enjoy it. Maybe next time she will be brave enough to drive it. I need someone to drive me around when I’m old.
FYI while reading my emails I’d know of anyone who would enjoy these too, feel free to send them their way. Or pass me their email and I’ll gladly add them to the list.
