Hello All
Here’s this weeks addition of what did Pat get into.
This was a busy week. I had family in town so that took up some of my time. However as always I knocked out a good portion of work.
I started out finishing up some Align Bore work.
If you remember from the last update, I got started on Align Boring the Model A engine I’m working on. Well it is now finished. It is bored, thrust faces cut, and the crankshaft has been lapped and fit. Ready for the next process which is drilling the oil holes out, and then cutting the oil groves. More to come soon
Next time I made was another job I was at previously and needed to return to and will have to revisit later this fall most likely. A few weeks ago I fixed a coil box for a Model T engine. When I reinstalled the box, I was able to get the car up and running however it wouldn’t run on magneto. I’ve tried just about everything I can think of to get it working. Unfortunately I am fairly confident I will need to pull the engine to fix the issue. I believe when the coil box shorted out, current back flowed to the mag and basically de energized the magnets. I got one last check to preform but sounds like this engine is being pulled for the winter.
Next up I went down and visited another customer. This job was to inspect the rear hubs/brake drums due to grease/oil leaking. I didn’t find too much wrong or much grease leaking which was good. I believe the hub seals were shot and the hubs themselves were loose on the tapered axles. I did end up replacing one of the hub bearings as it had a broken roller. His car should be good to go now.
As for my stuff…
I made a little progress on the 1951 Pickup truck. Jenn and I managed to get the carburetor off and disassembled, cleaned. Now ready to reassemble. I need to get moving on this job as it’s slated to go to its new home beginning of September. More to come on this guy soon!
Lastly yesterday Jenn and I went to look at another Model T that was for sale. The Model R we went to look at is a 1927 Model T Roadster Pickup. Currently the car isn’t running but hasn’t been sitting too long. It is in great shape and all parts are there so it’s a complete car. Soooo she’s going to be coming home with us. Most likely this Thursday. So new winter project acquired! Better get moving on my Model A Roadster!
